How much do you charge?
I provide transparent handyman prices in Malvern for small to medium household repairs and home maintenance. As a local handyman, I focus on reliable, professional service with clear pricing and no hidden fees. Whether you need general repairs, flat-pack assembly, door or lock work, or minor plumbing and painting, my costs are easy to understand and fair.
Filling my day with small 1 hour jobs is quite a difficult way to make a living so I politely ask if you could gather all your small jobs together.
Working for yourself is always difficult. There are a lot of expenses to take care of such as taxes, accountancy fees, banking, advertising, insurance, running a vehicle, tools, clothing, ppe, sick days, holiday and paper work. Lots of paperwork! such as quotes, ordering, invoicing etc. Oh plus my workshop, electric, water and business rates.
So when I'm working out my hourly rate all these things need to be taken into consideration.
Hourly rates
£55
This is my minimum charge for jobs taking up to 1 hour.
£40 / hour
Hourly rate for Weekend and bank holiday working.
Min 2 hours
£40 / hour
Hourly rate for jobs over 2 hours. So if the job takes 3 hours then its 3 x £40
£30 + £40/hour
Emergency call out rate - outside my working hours of 8.30am - 4.00pm
Min 2 hours including travel time to site
£280 / day rate
This is my day rate.
Working 8.30 - 4.00 with a 30 minute break.
How do I pay?
At the end of the job I will invoice you via email.
The email will contain a payment link and an invoice with a breakdown of parts and labour.
You can either pay by Cash, Card or Bank transfer.
What type of work don't you do?
I don't do the following as they require a fully qualified expert.
Roofing - mainly as I don't like heights
Brick laying
Major garden landscaping, patio laying or groundworks
Electrical work that needs a qualification to complete
Boiler, central heating installation or gas work
Fitting of double glazing
Large area plastering - trust me, it's better to use those who do this every day for a living.

How does it work?
I try not go around quoting as its very time consuming and I want to charge you for my work and not other peoples quote time, so if you have a small job then just ring, text or email me. Larger jobs will need a quote to make sure both parties are clear on costs.
Pictures help too, you can use what's app, email or text.
I supply all tools and minor consumables such as jigsaw blades, sandpaper etc.
Small items like wall plugs, screws may be charged if using more than a reasonable amount.
Due to avoiding being vat registered I prefer you to pay for materials. I can advise on what is needed and I do carry a small amount of plumbing bits, screws, catches etc with me.
Consumables such as parts, plumbing bits and fittings will be charged for if supplied by myself.
If I have to pop out for parts this will be charged within my time.
I do not charge for travelling time within 3 miles of Malvern. Further distances are charged at £3/mile there and back
Please ensure if possible there is somewhere to park my van close to the property because security and access to my tools is important.
Don't feed me too much tea and cake - you' re paying for my time and I'm trying to keep an eye on my weight.
Any waste/rubbish must be disposed of by yourself. Including flat pack packaging, green waste and off cuts. A trade waste license is expensive. I will however leave your property tidy and as I found it.
Once the job is complete I will send an invoice via email. This will contain a breakdown and a payment link via Sage which you can click on and pay securely online. If you wish to pay by cash then please say on the day and I can invoice you whilst there.
If you're happy with my service/work then please leave a review on google as it helps other customers find me and give them confidence in my work. They are incredibly important for a small business.
Insurance
I am fully insured to work in your home and covered for accidental damage to you or your property.
I am also DBS Checked and a parent of 2 children myself.
I am not a qualified electrician or plumber. My skill set is made up of 30 years of on the job experience. I will not undertake any work that is required by law to have a qualification or certification. Please use a fully qualified trade for those jobs.
